Georgian Bay General Hospital awarded Accreditation

Georgian Bay General Hospital was recently awarded Accreditation status with Accreditation Canada following an on-site evaluation of patient care delivery. An accreditation review is a voluntary process which GBGH and all hospitals in Ontario undergo every three years as part of a commitment to patient safety, continuous improvement, accountability and transparency.

GBGH scored 91% after a three day survey looking at 1,566 standards of excellence.

Frontline staff in the organization were described as “committed, passionate and patient-centred.”

“All 630 staff members, as well as volunteers and physicians work hard every day to deliver on our promise of Exceptional Care, Every Person, Every Time and they should be commended for their achievements,” Paul Heinrich CEO said.

Accreditation is granted by Accreditation Canada, a national non-profit, independent organization.

Achieving Accreditation is a very rigorous process that requires hospitals to continuously evaluate their processes around patient care, safety, governance, leadership and communications.

“Achievement of the Accreditation award is a testament to the quality of the work performed every day by our staff, volunteers and physicians,” John Parker Director - Rehab, Geriatric Services and Quality Programs and the lead for the Accreditation project said. “Knowing that our hospital has achieved this level of recognition is something that we can all take pride in and assures our community that the services they receive meet nationally recognized standards that emphasize best practices and patient safety as cornerstones of the care we provide every day.”

Georgian Bay General Hospital serves the communities of Midland, Penetanguishene, Tiny Township, Tay Township, Springwater Township, Christian Island and Georgian Bay Township.
